All About Reiki
What does Reiki involve?
Reiki is a Japanese form of hands-on stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is based on the principle that we all have energy flowing through our bodies which sometimes becomes stuck. These blockages can be caused by physical illnesses or emotional problems. Reiki aims to remove these blockages and to restore a healthy flow of energy.
What does it involve?
For your Reiki treatment, you will either lie or sit upright in a chair. Reiki does not require you to remove any clothing. Your reiki healer will place her hands on various locations on your body to then perform the Reiki healing. The session is usually completed in silence. At the end of the session, your Reiki healer will usually ask you about your experiences and feelings during the treatment. It is recommended that immediately following a session you drink plenty of water and try to take some quiet time out.
How will I feel afterwards?
Reiki usually has the impact of making people feel physically and mentally very relaxed. Sometimes, sessions can bring up suppressed emotions and release pent up feelings. Some people can feel more emotional for a few hours after the session and sometimes for a few says afterwards. These feelings will stabilise and the process should feel very cleansing and cathartic.
As well as helping to heal emotional pain or worries, Reiki can also help with pain reduction, including muscular tension. Pain can improve will relaxation induced by reiki and also through improved energy flow.
Although these are some responses to Reiki, everyone’s experience is unique, so you’ll need to try it to find out what it does for you!
There are many wonderful benefits of Reiki. It is a very simple process but can have some profound effects to health.
Promotes Harmony & Balance.
Reiki enhances the body’s natural healing ability whilst optimising overall wellness. Reiki works directly on restoring balance on all levels.
Creates deep relaxation and helps the body release stress and tension.
Everyday life means that people spend their days very busy and always on the go. Many enjoy Reiki treatment as it means time to ‘just be’ and time for themselves. Afterwards clients can feel relaxed, at ease and lighter in themselves
Dissolves energy blocks and promotes natural balance between mind, body and spirit
Regular Reiki treatments can bring about a calmer and more peaceful state of being, in which a person is better able to cope better and enjoy better emotional resilience. Individuals can learn how to perform Reiki on themselves to enjoy the benefits of Reiki on a frequent basis.
Assists the body in cleansing itself from toxins and supports the immune system
We spend so much time in stress-reactive fight/flight phase that it becomes our ‘norm.’ Reiki helps to help switch our fight-flight mode off and promote more relaxation in the body. It is when we are relaxed that our physical systems work better and recovery can happen. Better relaxation can have a positive effect on both sleep and digestion.
Clears the mind and improves focus as you feel grounded & centred
Reiki can support you in staying centered in the present moment (otherwise known as grounded) rather than worrying about the future or thinking about the past.
Aids better sleep
When we are more relaxed then we sleep better and with better sleep there is better recovery and healing from daily stresses.
Helps relieve pain and support the physical body healing
Reiki can relieve pains linked to a range of pains including migraines, arthritis, chronic back pain, irritable bowel syndrome and menstrual cramps. Relaxation can promote an improved level of pain. Release of suppressed emotions can also help in reducing pain. Optimising the flow of energy can also facilitate your body systems to function better, again minimising pain.
You can learn Reiki yourself
Many clients will learn reiki for themselves by attending a Reiki Level 1 course so they can boost their own energy levels on a daily basis. Some are drawn to reiki to support their physical healing, some want to delve deeper into their personal development and most have experienced the benefits of reiki and wish to be able to support themselves that way regularly.
